CASE STUDIES

To illustrate the activities of the BSB, some examples of what we do are set out below. As the Society's help is always provided on a confidential basis, the names used are fictitious but the situations are real.

George left Christ’s Hospital in 1946. A few years ago his wife was hurt in an accident and has difficulty walking. George wanted to fit a stair lift to get her about the house. He could not afford the full cost, so we made a contribution towards the cost and this has helped his wife greatly.

Damian left Christ’s Hospital in 1995. It was not long before he got involved with drugs. Life for Damian had a lot of downs in the next few years but he is clean now and trying to rebuild his life. The BSB has given him a loan to help him set up a home for himself and his family and we hope that life will get better for them all.

Adrian always intended to become a vet and he obtained a place at university. The course lasts five or six years and Adrian gets no parental financing. The BSB has made grants and loans to Adrian and expects to continue to do so for up to six years and not to obtain final repayment of the loans for a further ten years.

Liz is an only child whose parents are divorced and whose father takes no interest in her. Liz's mother left the Christ’s Hospital in 1986 and currently lives in a Housing Association flat on a low income. The BSB has enabled Liz to sit the entrance examinations and gain a Presentation to Christ’s Hospital .
